HVAC Technician Licensing by State

We receive calls every week asking what the state requirements are for HVAC Technician licensing. So here is a state-by-state breakdown. First and foremost, anyone working with refrigerants must have an EPA license to do so, this is the minimum requirement.

*Local counties and municipalities may require technician licensing… make sure you check with yours.

**State requirements may change, make sure you verify with your State Licensing Board. If you are looking to become an HVAC contractor most states require licensing and documented experience in the HVAC field and testing in the areas of HVAC, Mechanical Code, and Business.
